Ever hear of one way missionaries? they purchased one way tickets to
the mission field, but instead of packing suitcases, they packed their
belongings into a coffin, knowing they would never return home. William
Milne was one of them. He went to the New Hebrides in the South Pacific,
knowing that headhunters had martyred every missionary before him. he
didn't fear for his life because he had already died to himself. After
Jehovah called him into ministry, through tests, He had changed him,
never fearing death any more.
For thirty five years he lived among the people of the New Hebrides and
ministered to them. When he died the tribe buried him in the middle of
their village with the inscription of these words on his tombstone: When
he came there was no light. Nowhere in Scripture does God send us to
safe places to do easy things. Face with the stake, Jesus prayed the
ultimate prayer of commitment: Not my will, but thine be done," Luke
22:42. Now, God is asking you to be totally committed to your dream. If
you are not committed to following your dream, you will end up in life
fulfilling the dream of others.
"You armed me with strength for battle,"Psalm 18:39. Each of us is
fighting a battle of some kind. But not all of us are winning. Those
winning come in various categories, but they all have one thing in
common, a faith that refuses to quit, friends can't persuade him to
abandon his dream and he can withstand the mocking of family members.
Nobody had more troubles in life David of ancient Israel. But he
understood the importance of maintaining the right perspective. The
grace you receive from God will always be equal to the challenges you
face.
Did you know that Lord Nelson, England's famous lord of the sea,
suffered from seasickness all of his life? Yet this man who sank
Napoleon's fleet refused to allow his personal struggles rob him of his
destiny. He not only learned to live with his weakness, but conquer it
in his daily living. Everyone has his own problems. And while nobody
pins a medal on us for winning, nothing can diminish the satisfaction of
knowing we didn't quit, or the joy of knowing we overcame by God's
grace.
"If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large
ones,"Luke 16:10. It has been observed that giant killers don't start
out as giant killers. David was a meek musician, humble shepherd and an
overlooked son. Faithfulness was his advantage. Commitment and
faithfulness to his talent, faithfulness with his father's sheep and
faithfulness to God. By becoming master over small things, he became
master in large things. Faithfulness is a common characteristic of
uncommon achievers.
Matthew started as a tax collector, Peter as a fisherman; Elisha as a
farmer; Jesus as a carpenter. Have you ever considered that Jesus spent
more years as a carpenter than He did as a preacher? God never calls an
unproductive person into His service. Every candidate had an occupation,
every candidate had started something before he became a giant killer.
Those who dared to dream always know that the reward is always greater
than the risk. Life rewards risk and action but satan will create fear
and anxiety in you to minimize the reward and magnify the risk. Yet the
truth remains Jehovah is a Rewarder of those who diligently seek Him:
Hebrews 11:6
