Wapic Insurance launches campaign

              By Bayo Ogunmupe
As part of its plans to raise awareness for public safety, the Wapic Insurance Limited, Lagos has launched a campaign tagged, "Road sense." This campaign is a 3 month long safe road use awareness drive, sequel to their highly successful "Safety-on-wheels" event which was executed in partnership with the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps and the Lagos State Transport Management Authority in February. Unlike "Safety-on-wheels" campaign which enlightened thousands of drivers on safe road-use practices, the importance of adherence to traffic rules as well as the culture of vehicular maintenance; the "Road sense" campaign is designed to promote vehicular intelligence via digital media channels.
As an advocacy campaign, it seeks to change the current poor road culture by calling everyone  to become more responsible through being aware of various road signs and their meaning to every category of road users including motorists and commuters. It has become apparent that many drivers in Nigeria don't really understand traffic rules, thus are unable to abide by the regulations, leading to bad driving habits and ultimately to accidents. Thus, the Wapic Insurance plan is to educate and encourage good road habits.
Through the road sense campaign, Wapic will generate trivia competitions, social media engagements which will drive traffic to social media platforms such as facebook, twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. This campaign was made necessary by the high rate of accidents on our roads. Which is why as an underwriting company, we constrained to commence this vehicular campaign to emphasize road rules and the discipline to obey them as being essential to safety on the roads. This is an attitudinal-change online campaign dedicated to promoting safety on Nigerian roads by calling on Nigerians to become more responsible.
According to the managing director of Wapic Insurance, Mrs Adeyinka Adekoya, "Many road users do not really know the rules of the road or understand the signs. The result is bad driving habits as well as inappropriate road-use culture that cause accidents." Wapic Insurance has an enviable record of claims payment and is a prime promoter of initiatives  that empower people with relevant knowledge and positive skills that reduce road accidents in Nigeria. Through its interventions, the company is committed to driving social harmony by instituting safe road-use culture in Nigeria, through ensuring that motorists, passengers and pedestrians have adequate knowledge of road safety and the commandments that guide traffic movements.
